A Growing and Unsustainable Problem

The US alone produces 65 Million Tons of Plastic Each Year. This is 406 Pounds of Plastic for each person each year.
U.S. landfills receive 27 million tons of plastic annually. This accounts for 18.5% of all Municipal Solid Waste (MSW)
Plastics currently make up ONLY 4.5% of all recycled products
Current recycling is 525% more expensive than landfill disposal .
The US spends over $40 billion in recycling each year.
Household food waste makes Up 24% of all American household waste due to inefficient or no composting.
As of 2021, the U.S. recycling rate for plastic is estimated to be only 5-6% plastics disposed of, the rest is dumped in landfills or our oceans poisoning our groundwater and coastal marine environments

Our World As It is

Human Health
In 2025 each of us are ingesting an average of 5 grams of plastic every week. This is equivalent to eating ONE Credit Card Per Week.
Microplastics pose serious health impact including cancer, inhalation and respiratory issues, ingestion and gastrointestinal issues, toxicity, disruption of gut microbiota, immune system effects, and neurological degeneration.

Economic
Globally Over 380 million tons of plastic are produced annually, with only about 9% being recycled.
The Plastics Market in the United States alone is estimated to be $110 Billion Annually.
The US spends over $40 billion in Plastic recycling each year.
The World Economic Forum projects that without intervention, the global plastics industry will account for 20% of total oil consumption and up to 15% of global carbon emissions by 2050.

Environmental
More than 1 Million Marine Animals die each year due to Plastic Pollution.
More than 1,500 species in marine and terrestrial environments are known to ingest plastics regularly, poisoning marine and terrestrial life, impeding species reproduction and poising much of the human food supply.
In 2019, plastic products were responsible for 3.4% of global greenhouse gas emissions throughout their life cycles, with 90% of these emissions coming from the production and conversion of fossil fuels into new plastic products. OECD also reports that, unless human behavior changes, greenhouse gas emissions associated with the life cycle of plastic products are expected to double by 2060.
